our history

Independent Rights & Resources formerly known as the Montgomery Center for Independent Living was established in 2004 with the aim of empowering individuals with disability in the community. We are a 501 (c) non-profit organization which is mandated and funded by the state and federal government. Our service area initially covered the counties of Montgomery, Autauga and Elmore but have recently expanded to a total of 18 counties.
